SOTU Festival 2014 Bassculture Foundation Amsterdam flyer final

SOTU (Sounds of the Underground) is an annual music festival taking place in the ‘Oud West’ (old west) district of Amsterdam. Like the first two editions, there are busy day and night programs planned across various music venues – located close to the city’s prestigious Vondelpark.  The three main locations at the core of the festival are:  OT301, OCCII and the Vondelbunker. Other smaller spots, such as, De Pepper (vegan cafe inside OT301), Butchers Tears Brewery, Lambiek Comic Bookstore, Mediamatic and open hangout Budapest also play host to related events.
The festival programming includes noise, improvised music, psychedelia, indie-pop, avant-garde, black metal, ambient, experimental electronica and a wide range of underground dance music genres (this years focus on footwork, ghettobass, tekno, elektro). There is an emphasis on local acts, as well touring bands and sound artists. Also included within the program are documentaries, films, workshops, a lecture, market, videoart, soundart and performances. Once again, SOTU is working with curators/collectives/organizations/vondelparkvenues who join forces to program the festival together.

“Mainstream comes to you, but you have to go to the underground.”  – Frank Zappa
